Middle school students celebrated Pi Day, 3.14, on March 14. The students participated in various activities that centered around the ratio pi, which compares the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Activities included measuring the diameter of circular objects and cutting string to discover how many string lengths it would take to go around the circle, otherwise known as the circumference, making lists of words with "pi" in them, charting the frequency of the first digits of pi, comparing the Greek alphabet to our alphabet, and playing pi games on the chrome books. The students also listened to songs about pi as they worked and enjoyed snacks that were circular in shape, such as oatmeal pies and oreos. A fun time was had by all that participated.
